My mum is thinking of getting the VGN-AR31M, this comes after returning the VGN-AR31E because of the poorly lit screen. The reason for this was that the lower model of the AR series didn't come with a Double Lamp as the details on the Sony site and in stores were not clear about that. Even the store people said how disappointing the screen was.

So what I really want to know is if the VGN-AR31M is a much better screen in terms of brightness before my mum goes out and spends £1400 on more disappointments.

Hi Byron,

I have an AR31M and the screen is stunning, I can literally light the whole room with it. Downside is poor battery life on the go.

Thanks for the reply, it sounds as if the AR31M has a much better screen than the lower end model then.

Thanks again, she went and bought it this morning and the screen is fantastic. She is thankfully very happy this time!
