Only a week into my new VGN -S1XP and a pixel has died on my screen.
Is this normal - I thought if you bought it and it was OK, pixels wouldn't start to die on you?
thanks

Someone to back up sony support it about time.
Never had a problem my self ether.
Just dont look for dead pixels! Once you find one it will bug you for eternity, just casually sit at a distance from your screen and concentrate on the overall picture.
Dead pixels are just what happends with all varietys of monitor, i counted 2 on my old toshiba, and 3 on my older CRT screen. Mercifully i havent noticed any on this screen, but im sure it wont be long. Everyone gets them, and even if you get a replacement screen/laptop, whos to say that will never get dead pixels?
ooooh.... one of the the lucky ones.....
dead pixels - but after a week, of only light use?

As people have said, it can happen any time.
hey
i recently bought a k115B about 3 weeks ago. It wasnt until a couple hours of playing around on it for the first time that i noticed a black spot on the screen. I thought it must be dirt but i realized it was a dead pixel! that really annoyed me cos the machine was supposed to be new! Well anyway i calmed down and decided that if anymore appear im sending it bac to sony. Besides i dont actually notice it now and im happy but i thought sony were meant to have quality products.
It can happen to the best of the manufactures, it is just one of the unfortunate things of TFT's it used to be seen a lot on older screens.
My PCG-GR214EP is about 3 years old with only one dead pixel. My old compaq's had so many i lost count.
I think that you only get a dead pixel during intial use but i might be wrong.
Yes, it happens, just hope it doesn't affect your usage.
time to update everyone:
the pixel wasn't dead, it was obviously only resting - it has miraculously recovered and the glories of the screen (it is the best laptop screen I have ever seen) are restored.
And a note: my retailer (Micro Anvika, Tottenham Court Road, London, England) offered to take it back and change it without a murmur. I have only had good experiences with them - knowledgeable and supportive all the time.
thanks for the comments

I have been to Totterham Court Road - it's a cool place to see new gadgets.
