PCG-K115Z Freezing please help..!!!

Is anyone else having problems with the K115 series freezing. It happens normally after 15-20 mins of use and can occur during any activity (normally low or idle) the mouse freezes up and nothing responds (not even ctl+alt+del) You have to hard power off. It happens a lot when using Internet Explorer.

I tried restoring using the system restore disk and that seemed to solve it, but 2 days later it seems to be happening again.

I have registered the warranty but when I try to log into e-support it states it doesnt recognise my email address.

Most frustrating....please advise

Mike

As far as esupport is concerned, I understand that a 'phone call is usually more effective

I've no idea why your machine should still be having the same (strange) problem after a full recovery - unless you have a virus - is your AV software up to date?

Do you have a wireless LAN running?

Please try to run the Windows Update.
Tools>Windows Update
It seems there is a sensitivity with Flash or Java on that model.

Also try to disable all unnesecary apps in the background.

I'm not sure if the antivirus is up to date. It is the same as what is installed by default. I've barely used the system since restore though so I would be surprised if a virus is causing the problem. Is a system freeze a symptom of virus infection?

I have tried it with update and it still froze after a while.

I have also tried it with apps disabled. But surely with this spec of laptop that shouldnt be necessary. It has frozen without IE being launched also. It just seems to happen more when IE is being used. I have tried Netscape and it also has frozen. Nothing is in event viewer making me think it is a hardware problem rather than a software/driver issue..

Surely that isnt acceptable. This is my first VAIO, I normally use Toshibas but liked the screen on the VAIO. I have phoned support and they were very helpful.

They seemed insistant that it is a software issue which I can understand. However the time it froze after restore all I had installed was office 2003 (legit) and it froze two days later, twice within 20 minutes while using IE.

They are picking it up tommorrow however I am concerned that it will not freeze for them or they will say it works fine on a clean restore so it is an issue with Microsoft Office and I should pursue it with Microsoft. I have that version of Office running fine on XP at home and at work so it is unlikely to be that software causing the freeze.

I love the laptop. But I darent work on it as the freeze means I lose all my work

Hopefully, they may swap it out and it will be a hardware issue.

We shall see....

Exactly the same model K115Z - and I had the same problems from beginning. I did not care much for them, as I did not plan to keep XP home and the very much reduced software package. So, I did a clean new install with XP Pro SP1 - working fine. I installed several application - no problem. I managed to get all drivers updated and running fine. Then I used Windows Update ... and there the problem started again after trying to install Media Player 9.
Since that it was not fixable. ... until I said good bye to MS and installed Linux Mandrake 10.0.
After 30 Minutes EVERYTHING was working perfect.
I am happy now.
