Hi all, hopeing you can help me, i have a Vaio PCG 8M8M, i had to have a new hard drive fitted due to my old one packing up so i decided to have an 60 GB hard drive fitted rather then sticking with another 30GB.
All was fine until about 2 months ago, the laptop now start to get very hot after its been on for about 30 mins, this is normally just with standard use like browsing the web etc, it usually gets so hot that it switches it self off. I took it back to the guy whom fitted the hard drive and he replaced it with a 30GB saying that the larger HD might ave cuased the over heating, however it is still doing it, anybody know what might be causing this, could it be the fan not working properly, it seems to be spinning but maye its just not cooling the laptop down enough.
Thanks in advance for all your help!!
Sorry its a PCG-GRT795MP
Could be a few things,
a) a fan isn't working
b) dust in the vents
Not Cooling properly.
Hi raz-99,
I doubt that the size of hard drive has any relevance to the problem that you are experiencing.
The GRT series, over a period of time, has been known to have cooling problems. To resolve this problem the cooling vents need to be cleared, but this model usually requires disassembly to remove a build up of dust and fibres in the vicinity of the fan.
Sometimes a blast of compressed air directed through the vents will resolve the problem, but with your particular model I doubt that this will have the desired result – but worth a try.
If you are confident enough to open up your notebook then possibly someone can provide disassembly instructions, otherwise a local notebook repairer should be able to carry out this task for a reasonable fee.
