I bought myself a new Sony Vaio VGN-C2S laptop. It comes with Vista Home Premium installed and no back-up discs. I have tried to load some of the games and software programmes I used on my old laptop (which ran on Windows XP) and nothing seems to work. For example,
Sims 2 - vista operating system is not compatibile. Apparently, there is a fix on the Maxis website, but this won't run on my laptop.
My phone software - I have a Sony Ericsson V630i phone and the PC suite CD won't load properly on my laptop....I get a message stating the operating system is incompatible.
Sims 1 - Makin' Magic pack. The game will load on the laptop but keeps crashing.
All of this is very frustrating as I thought I was buying a new and improved laptop. My 3/4 year old Dell is much better.
Can anyone tell me what I can do to make any programme work on this operating system? Or should I try to replace Vista with Windows XP instead? As no back-up comes with the Sony laptop, I'm nervous of reformatting anything.
Thanks!!
Barbara

Theres loads of games that may not work correctly, but the way I found how to get some games to work is you have to select the games to be ran in Admin mode, this will give the game permission to write to the hard drive.
Right click on the short cut of the game and select Run as Administrator.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for your help.
I will run the VAIO Recovery Utility when I get home later & I can live without the phone connection. At least now I understand the problem.
I have tried to run The Sims as Admin and that seems to work now.
Thanks for alleviating my frustration!!
