Hi,
just bougt an XL100 but when I play DVDs, I can hear the sound but get no picture. I'm guessing it's a video overlay problem but don't know where to go next.
Anyone any suggestions?
What are you connecting it to and how?
Hmmm .... Strange
another member from this forum can't get sound.
I guess you are using HDMI connection. It must be something to do in the setting.
If you are connecting it through the HDMI you "MAY" have to turn on the sound output through HDMI,
In the CONTOL PANEL select “SOUND REALITY AUDIO” then select “ADVANCED” and you’ll see an option to “ENABLE HDMI AUDIO”
Hope this helps
I'm connecting using component video. Sound isn't a problem, only the DVD picture.
The rest of the picture is fine, and I can play AVIs etc no problem.
Seems the problem is some sort of copy protection that doesn't like the component connection. Connected to a PC monitor via DVI and DVDs are fine.
What bugs me is I worked this out, and Sony tech support are still trying to catch up and figure it out. When I pay extra for a brand that supposedly has a reputation, I kind of expect that what I'm sold actually works, and I don't have to spend my time debugging it for them.
At least when I bought my PC from Lidl and there was a problem, the fix was already recognised and available as a download!!

Also having this problem with a day old Xl100. using the component out as well, sound but no picture on DVDs. Wouold appreciate some help if there's any out there.
Hi Sammyh25,
There have been several threads about this problem.
For copy protection reasons, you can only view protected media properly via the HDMI connection.
You may be able to view via Component but you will have to reduce the screen resolution.
All this is hidden (deep) in your manual - but who reads the manual before buying?
Have a look HERE
Yup it's exactly as explained.
To make it work use the nVidia settings and change the screen to be a standard TV not hidef.
You can then play DVDs but your screen resolution won't be hidef. Then you have to change it back to use the PC function.
BTW, are you having any standby / away mode problems while connected using component? Mine keeps locking up, but its fine if I connect to a monitor via HDMI.
