Hi guys,
I have Pentium 4 2.8 GHz in my Vaio and as far as I know underclocking is not possible, so in this way I want to underclock the GeForce FX 5600 to decrease the graphic chip temperature
Because I'm not a big gamer, so the performance of the graphic card is for me under priority.
Do you guys know some nice (freeware) tools, which I can decrease the rate (MHz) of the graphic card? Like powerstrip.
Is it a good idea to decrease those values? I mean, when I need performnace (i.e. gaming, graphic intensive needs, etc.) I will increase the rate (MHz) back to default.
So, this will save power and decrease the temperature inside.
What do you think ?

i have tried that gforce tweak tool... it does the same as powerstrip...
but somehow it does not keep the settings

Look... I know this is in german, but it should be possible with any driver... you can overclock or lower the clock rate to prolong battery life and maybe it will reduce the fan rpm's.
i have set my clockrate to 125/250 which gives me a good 15 minutes on my battery(depending on usage)... like out in yard.... barbacue and a six-pack... hehe
Hi
As to down gradeing the CPU you can replace the processor in you machine.
I did an upgrade in my PCG-GR214EP from 800Mhz to 1.25Ghz, so i would imagine that you could do the reverse. I did have to replace the processor though, but it was a very easy process.
I dont think that you can change the GPU though as they are normaly built on to the motherboard. The only company that i know of that has removabule GPU in there laptops is alienware.
Hi,
which video driver do you use and which version is it?
I cannot find how to de/increase the rate. There's no option to set.
And I also don't have the 'nView' option. What's that?
I use the latest Sony video driver - version 4.6.9.0

one thing more: Did the temperature decrease inside the laptop?
hi,
my driver version says 6.14.01.4364... now i have seen that version numbers differ from country to country.
also
on some drivers it might be that you need to tweak it so that the extra options show up... a very good tweaker that i have seen is XTeg... i know that this tweaker offers graphics card tweaking.
also
the only thing i have tested so far was the battery usage... and my timings came out 15 minutes over than what i use to have... i'll have to watch the heat to see if there is an improvement as well..

hey kee,
i have take my notebook appart and i have noticed that the gpu is sort of like a modul connect or inserted into a type of slot... also i have found a company at ebay's that is celling bare mainboards for the GRT series without graphic cards or modules.
i figure the most problem is the ajustment or fiting to the cooling system that is mounted.
?????????????????

It would be finding a new card which can work in the GRT too.
It's not for the hight hearted thats for sure.
hey kee,
follow this link to the ebay site which offers the mainboards
(it might be in german... but offer is in english)
