Sorry but you cant just delete the partition by deleting the folder. The vaio recovery disk will setup the partition on the hard drive at the start of the recovery.

You realy shouldent mess around with the partions on your hard disk as the can lead to the system becoming unstable.

The idea behind sony having the drive partitioned is that the C: drive is used for the OS and programs, and the 😧 is used for storage.

You can try using a program called partition magic that could remove the partition if you still want to.

But I would recomend not doing this and leaving them as they are.

partition magic is a good idea but i dont have it 😞
i want to delete sec. partition to install a linux but my question ist .. if i kill the partition (D:), is this also the end for the decovery folder ? i know that sony hide this folder or partition, but is it on 😧 or is it another partition ?
i hope everyone understand me

Did your laptop not come with recovery Disk's?

What model of laptop do you have.

I have not heard of sony putting the recovery information on to the partition before, thought that was an HP trick.

I'm not up to speed with later versions of Linux, but the trick always used to be to put Windows on one partition and Linux on another partition. Will that not still work?

Yea that should work no problem

Yeh you can choose Partition size when u do a reeboot with recovery CD

I Had C:/ 20gig - D:/20gig this is standard partition setting & filled it & got a windows hard drive low pop up when i had 15 gig on my D:/

So i have a 35gig for os & programs
& 5gig on D:/ to save documents music movies etc & programs installs for sorting, proccessing and moving into my 200gig constantly.

also my 200 gig is split into 3, 100gig for Music, Movies & TV, 50gig Programs & Data, 50gig for Backing up files that are most important & doubling them up in 2 partitions.

For u to do this you would need a Hard Drive like that Maxstar 200gig that uses FireWire or summit to hook upto laptop

I can't quite work out why you actually want to delete the partition in the first place. Why don't you just organise your files a bit better and put linux on your second partition?

I would suggest you DO NOT use Partition Magic, it messed up my old desktop :slight_frown:
