Hi All,
i've bought last year a PCV-RSM22 with 512 MB RAM. I decide to upgrade it with 1 GB. I've bought 2 x 512 MB PC2700. The first time I could see 1,5 GB. After one day, I tried to boot my PC but it could not start anymore. I tried several times and suddendly the PC boots up, but only with 1 x 512 and 2 x 256. I've change the order of the module, but could not see the 1,5 GB.
I've returned the 2 chips and got 2 new one yesterday. I've tried them but the PC couldn't start anymore.
Today I tried the 2 Chips in my PC on Office and both are working.
Any idea ?
Bios Update ?
Specific RAM Module ?
PC3200 ?
Thanks,
Anthony.
The reason your computer won't start is because of incorrectly installed RAM or faulty RAM. Please ensure you have read the notice about adding RAM as VAIO-Link keep a record of the RAM you should use for an upgrade.
WARNING: Any damage caused by upgrading RAM will more than likely render the warranty useless.
Do you get a 3:3:1 beep pattern at startup? This is characteristic of improperly seated RAM.
Also try and keep to the same type of RAM
I've not got the 3-3-1 Beep Pattern. The PC get power, the harddrive starts, but the screen doesn't. No beep. The ventilator are running very fast.
I've followed the notice got on the manual, but I could not find any information about the module I could use.
I've looked at the module with software (SANDRA and EVEREST) and bought the same type (PC2700 CL2,5) but bigger.
I tried the 2 module in another PC one and they work !
I've really no idea anymore.
Thanks.
Could well be a dodgy part on the motherboard...
