Hi All,
I'm running XP SP2 on a PCG-TR1MP. When I attempt to put the machine into standby, XP tells me it can't because "the device driver for the 'Alps-Pointing-device' is preventing the machine from entering standby."
So far, I've tried:
1. updating the driver
2. turning off hibernation in power properties, rebooting, and turning hibernation back on
3. removing the driver and letting XP 'find' the touchpad
Any ideas? I'll be using the machine to present at a conference soon and bringing it out of standby would be a lot neater than having everyone hang around while it boots from cold.
Cheers,
Bill
To recap:
1. We agree a new driver would seem a likely solution
2. The manufacturer (alps) doesn't supply drivers to end users
3. The latest driver on the Sony (viao-link) site doesn't help
4. Anyone got any better ideas?
Cheers,
Bill
I have the same message on a new VGN-S2XP when it does not go into standby. Keyword: NEW.
I've got the same thing happening on my VGN-FS115Z.
It worked fine until a few days ago. I don't think I changed any drivers or configuration details at the time it went wrong, so I'm at a loss to explain the reason for the fault.
It also dropped the hibernation option from the shutdown menu briefly (it came back after one reboot).
Strange, isn't it?
Strange indeed. I've not been able to think of anything that caused the problem. It certainly happened some time after I put SP2 on the machine.
