Alps touchpad preventing standby

Hi All,

I'm running XP SP2 on a PCG-TR1MP. When I attempt to put the machine into standby, XP tells me it can't because "the device driver for the 'Alps-Pointing-device' is preventing the machine from entering standby."

So far, I've tried:
1. updating the driver
2. turning off hibernation in power properties, rebooting, and turning hibernation back on
3. removing the driver and letting XP 'find' the touchpad

Any ideas? I'll be using the machine to present at a conference soon and bringing it out of standby would be a lot neater than having everyone hang around while it boots from cold.

Cheers,

Bill

Some devices can cause this problem if enabled to bring the computer out of standby, but I am not sure whether this applies to the Alps Touchpad.
Have a look in Device Manager, if the device `properties¿ has a Power Management Tab make sure that the `Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby, checkbox is cleared.

Tried this, too. The Alps site is quite interesting - most of their stuff is automotive components. They do, however, state that they supply device drivers only to original equipment manufacturers [http://www3.alps.co.jp]

Before first posting here, I downloaded the latest driver on the Sony viao-link site (ver 5.3.510.9a, dated 12/11/2003). It didn't fix the problem.

Mmm, I can't find a driver download of Alps devices on this site.
