Have you made sure the TV is running the latest software: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/lcd-tvs-kdlxxw7xxb-series/kdl-42w706b/downloads/00016378

Win 88,
Thank you for replying, the TV is running on v3.006 so I assume this is not the issue, whatever it is there is "insufficient memory" and both Sony and BBC are aware of it but fixing it seems a low priority so the TV is redundant.
Any other ideas about how fix it would be much appreciated although i think most have been exhausted.
Considering the TV is not old a part exchange would be appropriate.

The single best piece of advice I can give you is to power cycle the TV, then once turned on, just go for the app you want to use and start playing what you want, no browsing or anything like that. Just straight streaming.

Whilst I thank you for the advice, I find this to be of very little help the TV drops out either before it starts or when it starts and has now started to do the same thing with Netflix. It would seem as though the TV was produced with too little memory and there is no way of improving this. This TV is listed on the Sony site as certified for BBC player, I am concerned it was not produced to last and that both Sony and BBC sit on their hands and wait for the dust to settle at the consumers expense..
