no problem
rooting a phone grants you superuser access to your phone, in other words it's like having an administrator access to your computer. unlocking the bootloader grants you even more access but this could kill your phone if you don't know what you are doing.
flashing = installing new software
firmware = software
I had installed pc companion and its update. I still failed to connect even with pc companion. help meeee....
You could always decide to wait for the official update to come along, especially if you wish to retain your warranty.
No one can tell someone else what to do with their phones, but do consider carefully whether you are in so much of a hurry that any risks with flashing your phone are worth taking.
With my O2 Ray I did a repair of the software throught the PC Companion first then followed the instructions. By doing this the required drivers that you need to use the flashtool are installed.
The one problem I had was that something on the SD card caused an error with the market and I then had to wipe the SD Card and reflash.
Once I did that I then got the next update through PC companion and everything is 100%.
It may just be me but so far it seems the latest update is giving far superior battery life.
I hope this helps.
Im excited with the new features but Im upset that 3d camera is not working is there anyone who can help me?
what do you mean it's not working? I would recomend that you create a new thread so I can help you further, ( so we don't change the topic of this thread)
Come down, do not worry.
You means you could not boot your Xperia?
Do exactly what I have done. You will cover it : http://talk.sonyericsson.com/message/126780#126780
This may sound really stupid, but what is the point of booting your Xperia Ray.
booting or rooting?
rooting will grant you access to delete preloaded apps if you use "titanium backup" from the market
let me make it simpler
download the apk on your computer, send it to yourself through email, make sure you send it to your Gmail
now on your phone
go to settings -> applications -> check unknown sources
wait for the email, once you get the email, open it, and instead of downloading the attachment it will allow you to install it, voila, done
