Xperia Mini Pro and McAfee

Hi,

do you know how much it costs to use the pre-installed 12-month McAfee Mobile Security in the Xperia Mini Pro?

Is there a free trial for a limited time, or a subscription?

I've already been in contact with McAfee about this - and they sent me your way.

I would be very grateful for any information on this.

this is just a trial, and to be honest

1) you don't need an antivirus app at all, this is android not windows

2) it causes a lot of issues, battery drainage, slow down your phone, it interrupts sms/mms, and even your 3G connectivity,

uliwoolly is right, mcafee is unnecessary.

What I recommend is

1) Install the free avast! Mobile Security from the Market

2) Open avast and install the separate anti-theft component (which used to be the brilliant standalone Theft Aware)

3) Now uninstall avast (the rest is unnecessary anti-virus nonsense etc like mcafee): the anti-theft protection will remain.

4) Enjoy your phone!

Wow, that's a new one. I have no info on what this could cost actually. I'm surprised they did not know.

And I agree, antivirus apps do often have a tendency to slow down the phone and if, like you said,  it's not necessary to have one, why take the risk?

It's also hard to know if they're 100% compatible with the phone.

The nice lady I was speaking with at McAfee didn't seem to know if the agreement with you at Sony Ericsson changed their ordinary price for a 12-month installment, nor if it included a trial.

Secretly_Famous, Haven't you answered your own question? It's 12 month free subscription, that means McAfee Mobile is free for 1 year for your Mini Pro. I have been using it for the last 2.5 months.

The reason I asked was that I didn't know if it was free to use the service under 12 month.

It almost seemed too good to be true and no one seemed to know for sure.
