Unintentional icon activation

I am new to using smart phones.  I have had a w800i and  also a Blackberry Black 9000, but never a touch screen like the Xperia S that I bought last week.  I have a major problem in knowing how to avoid some icon being activated unintentionally.  I have not been able to find how I can "lock keys" to prevent this.  Also, I have accidentally managed to get a number of duplicate icon on the start screen, and nowhere can I find how to get rid of the duplicates!  Please someone out there, HELP!

Also, is there some way to know when the Xperia S is on standby and ON, and when the phone has actually turned itself  OFF...like when turned OFF in a hospital?

Press power button one time to lock your screen

tap and hold on the duplicate icon and drag it towards the bin at the bottom

You can press power button one time to check that

If screen lightens up means phone is on, otherwise its off

press and hold the power button and then select airplane mode, that way your phone wont send nor receive sms/mms, emails, and/or phonecalls.

you don't really have to turn your phone entirely off, airplane mode it's more than enough Slightly_smiling_Face
