I've been trying to update my Arc S via PC Companion for a few days now, but whenever I try to, I ran into the wininit.exe notification.
Being that file a part of the operating system, it doesn't make much sense to me...
I already re-installed PC Companion, but nothing seems to work.
My OS is Windows 7 32bit.

Hi, you can either perform the update on another PC/Laptop or use an SE Update Service.

Didn't you do a backup prior to your unsuccessful update with PC Companion? By the way, I was updated to Android 2.3.4 without any backup, but phone was 'restored' (automatically) after the update. Anyway, you may want to have a look at MyBackup app.

I don't know if you work for SE, but maybe it would be worth the effort to understand why this "Wininit.exe" warning shows up, being wininit.exe a critical Windows process... or maybe to place an "ignore" button on that issue.

To be honest, I have no idea regarding this 'Wininit.exe' warning, probably a search in the internet would help?!

I have had the same problem when trying to update my Arc telephone.
I tried following the link that you have supplied, but it does not lead to a specific download or application... it just redirects to http://www.sonymobile.com/
If I search for the software myself on the site, I end up with the same PC Companion Software, which, when I install it... causes a blue screen Windows 7 crash.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, but continuously have the same problem.
Are there any plans for Sony to debug the software and issue a new version that does work??
