Hello!
I have bought a Sony Xperia Sola Smartphone half a year ago. Since a few months I am experiencing problems with its touchscreen. The phone does not detect any touch in the middle of the screen for about 1-2 cm. This does not happen always, but about 75% of the times when I unlock my screen. The phone has already been sent to Sony, but I have received it back (after 3 weeks!!) without anything being done, except a software update, which I could have done myself and which did not help anything.
I actually can't be bothered to send it once again to Sony, that the support has it for another three weeks while I can't even write any messages nor check any of my mails when I am not at home.
I have set the phone at least 5 times back to the factory settings, that did not help. I have also put another SIM Card into it, same problem. I have tried it without any Apps installed (except the pre-installed ones, obviously, as they can't be uninstalled). None of this did help, the problem still exists.
Here are two screenshots of the phone. If the problem is not obvious, I don't know.
As excpected to work Bugged. The black part in the middle is not working.
Other than that, when the problem as shown above is happening, it also happens often that the phone starts to detect touch while I am not even touching it, which means it goes into settings and presses random stuff (exactly in the black part).
Another thing is, that I have noticed (as well when the above problem exists) the Floating Touch seems to detect a ghost. The Blue-wave-background which moves when floating over the screen just keeps on moving, even if I put the phone on my desk and walk away.
The phone has two years of guarantee, I am expecting a more professional support, than one which tells me that there were NO problems found.
I hope I can get some help here.
Best Regards.

Well, I am honestly disappointed of Sony. You didn't manage to fix the phone within a period of all together 11 weeks in support!
Thats a shame!
At least, I received the full amount of money back.
But Sony, who's gonna pay me the 3 months in which I've paid for my monthly contract, but couldn't use it? Seems as I keep sitting on these costs. Oh well.
I have now decided, to buy a LG Optimus L7 II (P710)
It's the same price as the Sola had and has about the same specs.
For those who think about buying a Sola:
Well, I want to be fair. The Sony Xperia Sola is a nice phone, I liked it and I really hoped to get it back. I would recommend it to you, but, if you have a problem with it, Sony seems not to give a shit about it. Which means, I can recommend you the phone, but not the brand.
My conclusion of this:
Sony? No, Thanks!
This was the first and at the same time the last product from Sony which I've ever bought. Well done! If you keep doing such a [sarcasm]good job[/sarcasm], you don't have to wonder if custumers run away.
Oh, one thing: It's funny how none of the Sony people in this forum ever posted here again, apart from telling me to send it to the service, which I've done multiple times.
Yes, you should really care a lot more.
Too bad.
Well, unfortunately I don't have any other advise then to send it back to the service center again, since software repair/update didn't solve the issue.
Yeah great. May I ask what's the point of this, other than the fact that I can't use my phone for another 3 weeks? Seems to be a great service center, if they tell me there there is No problem at the first time, after making the checks, and out of the sudden, when sending it the second time, they shall find a problem?
Well fine, if there is no other way. Phone's gonna be sent back next week, with a letter and the link to this topic.
Still I am disappointed of Sony, that's not what I was expecting of this brand.
I'll leave another reply once I got the phone back, I hope it's not gonna take three weeks again.
Thanks.
you're not alone in being disappointed in sony's support. on the forum you'll only get one of three answers : 1) reinstall firmware 2) send in for repairs and 3) we don't know. same thing goes for almost all other ways of getting support (and yes, I've been through them all).
on your journey you'll probably get contradicting answers, unhelpful information, wrong information or simply no answer at all. I've seen it all.
just make sure this is your last sony product, and tell your friends. maybe they'll learn when the go bankrupt or something.

The first few batches of Sony Xperia Sola had speaker and touchscreen problems. Looks like you are one of the unlucky ones.
Best bet send it back to service center for repair. Your most likely to get a new screen
or knowing Sony maybe some shoddy work where they just re-calibrate screen and then same problems comes back again. (Sony's way of saving money).
@tech-no-logical:
Thank you, I will remember what you've said. For now, I will send it back hoping for a fair repair or exchange of the phone.
@ShayKaPow:
Alright. Thanks for the info.
I have sent the phone back on Friday last week, including some bunch of information about issues of the phone. Let's see what's going to happen. Waiting for my phone to come back

Do keep me informed on what happens to your Xperia Sola.
I will, sure. As soon as I get it back or any feedback from them, I will share it here. This might take a bit of time, as it took 3 weeks last time. Gave it back on 03.05.2013.
Sooo, yesterday I got my phone back! Oh wonder! THEY DID AGAIN NOTHING! What do they tell me? Same thing as last time: "Phone works fine".
Ok, so I turned it on. First touch I made: Didn't work. Just right after I turned it on it was already bugged.
I really wonder if they even turn the phone ON!?!?
So just a few minutes ago, I was in the store and showed the issue to the guy there. What does he tell me? I'll send it back again. Like, really?!?!? Third time.
All I can say on this:
SONY!!!!! WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON?!?!? THAT IS JUST
R I D I C U L O U S !!!!!!!!!!!!
If you keep on acting like this with your custumers, you really do not have to wonder if nobody buys a Sony product anymore.
If I get this phone back in another three weeks, and the issue happens AGAIN, I'll either want my money back, and if I won't get it back (or get a new phone), I'll throw it out of the window, then I will have at least one time fun with it.
Anyway, I have video proofs of the issues:
If there is anybody who thinks that the issue is not obvious, tell me. But there is NONE.
I mean, how can the support NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM? Just turn the damn phone on and you will see it!! No offense, but that is just complete crap to me. Last chance, the phone is not going to be sent back a fourth time. Looking forward to when it comes back. To be honest, it is already a shame that it takes more than 2 weeks to do nothing. I can do nothing on a phone in 1 second. How do they take 2 weeks for it? -.-
Oh, and don't say it's my finger that's bugged. I asked 5 different people to test it.
Last chance, else this was the last Sony product which I've bought and will ever buy, so all my family.
Regards!
Buddy I am having similar problem. Do inform me if you get to fix it. Or I think I'm not gonna buy a sony product again ever.
I dont know if its a coincidence. But I am having the problem at the same area as yours and about the same width. Wth ?
