Hi!
I have a question for SONY:
As you know, you offer us the posibility to unlock the bootloader, wich is cool, but i don't need to change the firmware.
Has sony considered de posibility of giving us, (even if the warranty is voided), the possibility of having root access to the phone?
A lot of us like to have the official firmware installed, but we need root access for some apps to have better control of what we can do with the phone (for example, to use a dedicated firewall).
Thanks in advance for your time.

You can flash official/original firmwares with WotanClient. You can even manually choose which customization (region) of the firmware you want to install. Downgrade to .58 firmware, root using SuperOneClick and then re-upgrade to .62 using "update center" in the phone. It's the cleanest way of them all to have .62 and root. All of the other working methods involve unlocking the bootloader and customized firmwares.
even if you root you phone , it does not change anything.. i mean the firmware remains the same but since its an unofficial process , warranty will get void , but clearly you dont have the problem with waranty so try this..

As the ones who unlock the bootloader (which i didn't), i don't have problems voiding the warranty. My phone has been working correctly for 4 months.
I know rooting a phone doesn't change anything in the firmware. Also i dont mess the phone by removing a lot of apps. I love to leave everything as the manufacturer offers. I have an unlocked phone, bought with no contract.
I always have used rooted phones for 2 apps: adfree and droidwall, because in my country we do not have flat rates, and apps sucking bandwith are a big hassle. I want to have fine control of which apps have internet access.
Also, i'm running firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62. It can't be rooted, and i do not want to flash firmwares of doubtful origin to root the phone and then upgrade to .62.
I think i will have to wait for sony to release ICS and then wait again and expect the hacking comunity to come up with an exploit to root the phone.
yes , its better to wait for ics
wait for a moderator to reply you on this
It's not ok to talk about rooting a phone here? If it is so, i'm sorry, i didn't remember that from the rules.
My bad, if this is wrong, please, moderators, delete the post.
no no you can talk as much you want
i said " wait for a moderator to reply" to forward your comment to the concerned team
Oh, didn't knew haha. Cool then.
I'll wait for the moderator
Even firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62 can be rooted
Yeah? Could you tell me how, or point me to where i can find that information?
I'm an avid reader of XDA forums, and neither there or in google i could find anyone that could root a .62 firmware (without having to revert to an old firmware first)
