I thought there was some problem in gingerbread, but same problem is persistant in ICS. And since "Swype" keyboard can add/delete words directly in Personal Dictionary means the problem is not in gingerbread or ICS but with Sony Developers.

Here is what is happening:

  1. The Xperia Keyboard prediction (both touch and swipe) does not include the words from Personal dictionary ( This "Personal Dictionary" aka "User dictionary" words can be found at Settings>Language & Input>Personal Dictionary).
  2. Xperia Keyboard developes it's own user dictionary which is different from "Personal Dictionary". Let's call this as Xperia Keyboard Dictionary (XKD).
  3. Now, When you are typing word which is present in Personal Dictionary but not in XKD, the word will not be shown in prediction bar.
  4. To insert word in XKD you will have to type in word say "watDFish". When you are done typing this word you will have to click on it in prediction bar which is displayed just above the keyboard.
  5. Done, now the word is added to XKD and it will be shown in prediction bar whenever you start typing word i.e. "wa..". It will be shown in prediction bar regardless of it's presence in Personal dictionary. Also, when you use swipe method to input text this newly added word will appear without problem.
  6. The worst thing is this XKD is not user accessible. So once inserted, you can not delete words from this dictionary. So, mistyped word added in XKD will also be present in prediction bar..which is really annoying.

The best part about Personal Dictionary in android is that, words in this dictionary are synced across all the devices thanks to automatic backup and restore settings of Google/android. So you need not input same words in the new android you just purchased.

But in Xperia models since the Personal dictionary and Xperia Keyboard User Dictionary are two different things. I have to insert the word again and again whenever i change my mobile or factory reset my mobile.

@Moderator: Is there any way i can file a bug about this? How do i put this problem to sony developer. Cause I am sure if Swype can do things properly, so can Sony Developers.

Pleae help, my SL won't accept or add new words to the dictionary. I have tried inputing the words, but it still won't show up on predictive text. It's getting annoying because I often use the word and it still won't register to my phone. I'm runing on the lastes andriod version 4.1.2 also.

Hi,

You are right, the stock Xperia keyboard does NOT use the personal dictionary.  It doesn't use my entries there, especially those with a shortcut.  I hope Sony fixes this soon.
