My phone is due for an update, I've updated it in the past and it has connected perfectly fine!
However, when I tried to update my phone this time it wouldn't connect via Media transfer mode (MTP) to PC companion. It connects via Mass storage mode (MCS) fine, but to update my phone I need it to connect via MTP. When I connect it it automatically connects via MCS, I changed the settings to not connect automatically via MCS but it made no difference, PC companion then tells me I need to connect via MTP, which I do and then for some reason my phone disconnects from my PC and PC Companion can't detect it, the strange thing is, my phone says it's connected to my PC via Media Transfer mode but my computer says No Phone Connected? I've tried all the suggested options PC companion gave me, to restart my phone, reinstall PC Companion, I've tried everything. I'm beggining to get really frustrated because I've got an annoying notification constantly on my phone telling me it needs to update to 4.0.2.A.0.62!
Any suggestions?

Hi, see if any of the methods work ....
- Restart phone and connect again.
- Clear the data of MTP app. Goto Settings>Applications>Manage applications>All>MtpApp>Clear Data’.
- Unmount and remove SD Card (SD Card is not needed for a software update or repair), connect phone to PC Companion.
i knw this is really a serious problem many users are facing i guess incl me..
i have no 100% working sol ..but i still would like to suggest you restart ur phone as well as ur pc/lappy n then try to connect
Yeah I tried that and it hasn't worked for me! I read somewhere that you should try it with your battery being over 50% full, I'm gonna try that and see how it works out!
I did an update on PC Companion a few days ago, maybe it's a fault with the new update?
actually the 50% battery is when you update your phone not when you try to connect ur phone
and not really i am having such problems frm the start.. its sure is very irritating ..
one more thing you can do is update it from SEUS .. lemme see
SEUS ( Sony Ericsson Update Service) ... download it and install it on your pc and follow the on-screen instructions http://dl-www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/110/61/1323075336/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.12.5.exe
this should do it .. try this to update ur phone
hi @lexi95 as mentioned by @100rabh791 update with SEUS would definitely work...but please note.....this will wipe all your phone data except memory card,sim....so backup...what you need...and you can also update your phone through your handset with the update center app...which is inbuilt...

Thank you @gwhispererz! I done all the steps you said and it worked!
Great!
At least that should ease your frustration and divert your main focus back to enjoying your phone.
I have the same problem when updating my Xperia ray, but this solution doesn't work.
