My micro ad isn't working

I bought a class 4 8GB SanDisk micro sdhc for my Xperia SP but I can't put anything on it. The phone recognises the micro sd but whenever I try to transferanything on to it, it says that it's not inserted correctly and that I need to check it. Why is this happening?

reformat the SD card, if that doesn't work the SD card might be defective

Follow uli's advice,you might have to use low level format.
