Missing capability for separate notification tones

Can anyone please confirm if there is a facility on the Xperia S with ICS loaded to have separate and different tones for Incoming Emails and Text Messages?

It used to be a facility I had on previous Sony Ericsson and Nokia phones but now it seems to have been lost with Xperia and ICS.

Am I the only user who would like to have easy recognition that I have a new text message rather than an email?

It is possible to set up different ringtones for specific contacts, so why can't we also have the facility to set up different notification tones for them as well?

I thought Android was supposed to have useful flexibility - this seems to be a missing feature unless I am missing something!

Hi, officially you won't be able to set different volumes of Ringtone and notification,
But it can be done using a third party app called notification toggle on google play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle&hl=en

Thanks for info, but it is the capability of different tones (not just volume setting) that I am looking for so it is possible to differentiate what is being received without looking at the screen each time.

You can set different tones by doing the following.

Open E-mail app > Menu key > Settings > Choose your account > Select ringtone.

Open text message app > Menu key > Settings > Notification tone.
