i v read in newspaper that android phones are prone to receive malware. and this causes slow down of cell phones , hacking of important data from phone. but how do i get rid of it ? how i recognize malware. the newspaper article recommends installing norton/ kaspersky antivirus. is it necessary?

Just download apps from the playstore, don't sideload apps, don't visit dubious websites and if you install an app a simple app such as a ringtone check the permisions, if it requires access to your location, or personal info just don't install it. 

I don't recomend antivirus as this apps drain your battery, create issues with other apps, connectivity issues, and slow down your phone.
