Making changes to the home screen

I tapped on one of the installed apps and it is now displaying on my home screen. How do I add and remove app shortcuts from my homescreen?

You tap a little longer on it and there should be a garbage bin where the menu button is.For adding,you can drag them from the menu or tap the screen and you can find a plus in the right corner of the screen,if on ICS.On GB tap the screen longer and a panel appears from where you can add.
