I would like to keep old version of apps loaded in my Xperia U phone. For example Google Maps older version which is pre loaded has the capability to pre cache city area. But now if you update GMaps this facility may be lost.
So how to preserve old versions of apps ? How to keep .apk files copied into our PC ? Where are they located ? Can I access that folder ?
Solved! Go to Solution.
They are there in the system apps folder and couldn't be deleted until you root your phone
So kind of preserved only
If you update an app and would like to get back to the old one then simply go to settings > app > all > any app > uninstall updates ( you will revert back to original app )
However if you still wish to backup on PC then
install root explorer on your phone and using it go to system / app / select all and copy them somewhere on the sd card. Later send them to PC

Hi But Guys wait a minute ! I have another problem. I remember the GMap as loaded by sony (originally) used to crash. after update of GMap 6.8.1 and to XU's build B.1.564 the GMaps did not crash and work well. I am using this version now. So I want to PRESERVE GMap app with THIS specific update of 6.8.1. Nabeel is this possible ?
yes
Using root explorer go to data/apps/ google maps ( identify it by icon because it's name would be sometihing like com.andoird.google etc etc ) copy that app and paste it somewhere on the sd card
sorry to be naive but tell me What is root explorer ? where to get it and can it be loaded on Mac ?
It is possible without Root !!!!!!!!!!!
Use Wondershare MobileGo (free) and enable developers mode under app (or follow the instructions)
it will let you back up and install apps without needing to do anything on your phone that connecting it.
http://www.wondershare.co.uk/android-manager/
plus does text and calls and contacts what merges with outlook if you have it.
Thanx Bob. This is really what I wanted as I prefer to back up the apps, in their current state, directly to the PC ! I will give feedback after use !
