Error:Light Sensor not found

Iv been trying to get some "Light Meter" apps on my Xperia U

But most of them give an Error which say "Light Sensor not found"

But in the specifications of the Xperia U it does say that it has a Light Sensor

Do i need to ROOT my phone for these apps to work?

Yess you are right , you need root access to gain control over your ambient light sensor
