Cedar Twitter app -- can't sign in

Cedar Twitter app -- can't sign in

I picked up my new Cedar yesterday. The main reason for choosing the Cedar was the twitter app and the micro USB charging port. I wanted a backup phone that would only need one in-car charger and would only need me to pack one charger when travelling light with hand luggage. I also wanted the simple fixed-focus camera as something to use to upload to twitpic.

I cannot log in to Twitter. I get the "Incorrect user name or password" error message. This might be one of those OAuth issues that seem to plague Twitter from time to time. Strangely, when I look at the connections listed in my Twitter settings by viewing my account on this PC I see that "Sony Ericsson Phone by Sony Ericsson, Sony Ericsson Phone Twitter Application" has read and write access approved about 14 hours ago

I'd welcome any tips that people might have that would help me log in using the SE Twitter app on the Cedar. Following a look at this forum and some other discussions on the web I have checked that the time and date are set correctly on the phone and that the time zone is correct, and I have tried setting a new Twitter password with no numerals in it but this has not worked so I have switched again to a more complex password. I have also dowloaded Update Service from the SE websited. Running it resulted in the phone being updated but no change to the behaviour of the Twitter app/widget. (I can log in to Twitter mobile using the Cedar's browser -- it's also showing on my Twitter settings connections page as having read and write access approved about 14 hours ago -- but that would not give me twitpic functionality.)

I think SE have abbandoned CEDAR to it's destiny.

They simply refuse to support it.

I have called by phone several time whining about this problem, and they still insist on dumb replies like "check your internet settings", "replace the defective phone", "try another carrier", "you are the only one having this problem".

All this just for not accepting that FIRMWARE IS FLAWED but they do not have any resources or intention to fix it.

Is this the support we deserve ?

Please, moderator, contact SE firmware developers and give us a comprehensive reply if someone is taking seriously this issue or we have to give up!

It's hard to pin point where the problem is located.

I have not heard of any other user having this problem.

But as I understand you Internet connection from the phone seems to be working fine?

You could check if there are any proxy server messing with the log in. Go to your Internet settings and check if you can disable any proxy.

Menu> Settings> Connectivity> Internet Settings> Connect Using> Click Options on your Internet account> Edit> Proxy Settings> Proxy> Off

Or maybe you could try to create a "test" Twitter account just to see if you are able to log in to that one?

No joy.:smileysad:

Proxy setting was "off" and setting up a new Twitter account didn't work either, though that account's Connections now list

Sony Ericsson Phone by Sony Ericsson
Sony Ericsson Phone Twitter Application.

Same behaviour as with my real Twitter account....

Try to run a reinstall of the phone software to see if that might help.

Because if the Internet connection is working and no proxy is blocking the connection I believe that there might be some problem with the Twitter app itself.

You can reinstall the software via the Update Service program found here: www.sonyericsson.com/updateservice

I did try that (see my original post) in the hope that any update might include an updated SE Twitter app that wouldn't have any OAuth issues associated with it -- I initially presumed an OAuth problem was the cause of the "Incorrect user name or password" error message -- but it did not work. I will give it one more go.

... Edit to say that I've now reinstalled the phone's software but it has made no difference. Attempting to sign in to Twitter first gave a "service unavailable" message and all attempts since have given the "Incorrect user name or password" message. Once again, something has happened at the Twitter end because the phone's Twitter app is listed under Connections on my Twitter Settings page on the Internet.

I'm sorry to hear.

I believe my last suggestion would be to try a SIM card from another operator. If that won't make any difference you should leave the phone to your retailer for a check by a technician at a repair center.

im too facing this same problem..... maybe its beocause of twitter app, its showing incorrect password

Having run SE Update Service twice, I don't see much point in asking a service technician to look at the phone. I'll wind up having to take time twice to go back to the shop where I bought it, and, after whatever length of time the service might take, I suspect I will have a phone that won't have changed much, if at all. If a service technician could flash the device with the result that the twitter app works for me then that upgrade should be made available to all end users via the Update Service. It should not require the end user to have take time and incur expense returning the device.

I will probably keep an eye out for a little while for a Sony Ericsson software update that fixes the problem. If running Update Service a few times over the next couple of months does not result in a fix, I think I may just sell the phone and wait for something better to fulfil the role. I don't think I'm eligible to return it for a full refund -- I doubt the inability to log in to twitter will be accepted by the shop that sold the Cedar as a reason to treat it as not fit for purpose.

Hopefully things will have improved by October when it comes time to upgrade my main contract phone. I was hoping to go the Xperia Arc route, or maybe the Neo as it is marketed as a GreenHeart phone, but I'm not sure I should given how many people have been reporting Timescape twitter problems.

I still think that if you have the possibility you should try with a SIM card from another operator. Just to check if this can somehow be related to the operator you're using.

You could also contact you local support team to see if they have acknowledged any issues regarding this with a specific operator.

Thanks Johan. As I mentioned in the other thread on the Cedar twitter app (gregoryopera at http://talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/14806?tstart=30) I had tried all suggestions except sending the phone back to SE through the shop where I bought. I should clarify that this included trying to use a SIM card from another network (from my wife's phone) and this did not work either, though continually produced a "Service unavailable" error message rather than the "Incorrect user name or password" error message. Trying again with an incorrect password and then a correct one did not help. I did not check to see if the Cedar's SE Facebook app worked with that SIM. Internet connectivity was fine, though (if anything, a little quicker than on my network).

I have been in touch with SE support in the UK by phone. They are not aware of any operator-related issues. (They may not be all that familiar with the Cedar -- I was asked to spell the word "Cedar" and I was then, after a period of time on hold, asked if I had tried connecting through wi-if, a connectivity feature the Cedar does not have.) I've been advised that this is being escalated to their technical department and that I should be receiving a phone call from there in the next three to five working days.
