I cant send a "new e-mail" from my phone (Arc) without knowing the e-mail address of the recipient in my head or have it written somewhere where i can see it. I can only reply to e-mails sent to me. The only contacts that come up when I use "+add" button is the 2 that I use with my Skype account. Ive tried following the instructions given on the the web site and in the user manual. No luck. Ive written to SE support and was given instructions (slightly complicated and misleading) no luck. I e-mailed them again and they said it couldnt be done!! So they were either b.s.ing me the first time or the second time.

Ok thanks, looks like I`ll have to do that. Cheers
Last thought, if you go in to your Phone book and press Menu button and select Filter... do you have show only contacts with phone numbers ticked, if so untick it. Also check what you have ticked in phone contacts or google contacts to ensure that your phone is displaying all your possible contacts.
But maybe a total repair and set up again will sort out the issue. Keep us informed how you get on!
Hi, thanks, just did as you said but still no contacts. When I open my Hotmail at the inbox and go to menu then Folders, their is no Contacts folder. Just Inbox, Drafts, Outbox, Sent, Trash. Is that normal not to have Contacts folder there?
Just going to add my hotmail account to my email app on the phone and see what happens. Bear with me, not sure I remember all my details!
Ok so I added my hotmail account to my phone and if I press the + button then I get my full contact list showing. I can also start typing the letters of their name and get a drop down box with their emails to select from.
I don't have a seperate contacts folder in the Hotmail account of the Email app. Just show Inbox, Drafts and Trash.
I keep all my contacts on my google account so in my phone book this is the only thing under Filter that I have ticked, System Group: My Contacts.
I think your next step is to run a software repair and set the phone up from scratch, which is a pain but may resolve the issue. Make sure all your contacts are saved to SD card or synced with Google.
Yeah thank you very much. It looks like thats what I will have to do. Its been this way from day 1, never been able to send a "cold" e-mail from phone- reply only. Great phone, but as good as it is, I have already outgrown the 4.2 screen!!! Looking for a bigger one:smileyhappy:. Thanks again for your and everyones help.
Just a thought, if you log in to your Hotmail account on line... open your contacts, select 'Options' top right of screen and then find the link to Export your contacts it will export to a .csv file. You can then open your Google account on line and import this file. Open your Contacts and then select the More with the drop down arrow and select Import and then choose the file you just downloaded, mine saved as WLMContacts.csv so will be something along those lines.
Once this is imported go to your phone, open Settings>Accounts & Sync tap on Google then press Menu and select the onscreen popup with Sync Now on it.
The contacts should all be there when you press the + button on your email app.
The only downside to this is that you may end up with a load of duplicate contacts in your phone book but as we are running out of ideas it might be worth a try as I am wondering if you were expecting there to be a contacts list from your Hotmail account on line automatically downloaded to your phone when you set up the email account.
Other than that I am out of ideas. Sorry!
