cant get contacts in to my hotmail on the phone e-mail app

I cant send a "new e-mail" from my phone (Arc) without knowing the e-mail address of the recipient in my head or have it written somewhere where i can see it. I can only reply to e-mails sent to me. The only contacts that come up when I use "+add" button is the 2 that I use with my Skype account. Ive tried following the instructions given on the the web site and in the user manual. No luck. Ive written to SE support and was given instructions (slightly complicated and misleading) no luck. I e-mailed them again and they said it couldnt be done!! So they were either b.s.ing me the first time or the second time.

Just a thought, if you log in to your Hotmail account on line... open your contacts, select 'Options' top right of screen and then find the link to Export your contacts it will export to a .csv file.  You can then open your Google account on line and import this file.  Open your Contacts and then select the More with the drop down arrow and select Import and then choose the file you just downloaded, mine saved as WLMContacts.csv so will be something along those lines.

Once this is imported go to your phone, open Settings>Accounts & Sync tap on Google then press Menu and select the onscreen popup with Sync Now on it.

The contacts should all be there when you press the + button on your email app.

The only downside to this is that you may end up with a load of duplicate contacts in your phone book but as we are running out of ideas it might be worth a try as I am wondering if you were expecting there to be a contacts list from your Hotmail account on line automatically downloaded to your phone when you set up the email account.

Other than that I am out of ideas. Sorry!

that's really odd it works fine with mine, I would suggest to try this

send a new email -> press the + sign -> do you see your contacts?

if not then go to settings -> privacy -> reset settings -> this will delete all the settings on the phone, it wont delete the apps -> restart your phone -> readd the accounts and try again

Hi again, finally able to login again after blackout.

I did the G-mail sync before and got my e-mail contacts in to my phone contacts but they still dont come up when I use the + to select a contact. The only ones offered are my 2 Skype contacts. I also reset my personal settings back to original as suggested, but no good ( lost my wallpaper, widgets, etc)

Have another query as well. The phone icon on the home screen in bottom right corner has mysteriously dissappeared about a week ago- any idea how I can get it back? Thanks
