Can Rooting Be Done Without Unlocking Boot Loader?

i want to root to downgrade to Android 2.3.7 from ics (Xperia U). i'm going toroot through a sort of app from Bin4y, not using flash tool command, cause i eant to unroot later..

Plus, what will happen if i unlocked it besides the warranty because it's over..

You do not need to root to downgrade - Rooting is mainly for flashing custom roms and installing apps which can remove the non uninstalble pre installed apps

Well 1st of all you need a .ftf file which is the firmware file or Stock firmware file, custom roms will have something like .img or .zip

Here is a stock .ftf GB file you may need a plugin to download on some internet browsers

Then follow this guide here - Ignore the title as it's the process you need to follow

Start at step 3 - miss out step 5 then carry on from 6 to the end

Hope it helps
