Hi,
try to uninstall your Sony Mobile Update Engine. It works for me.
Go to "Program and Features",
Uninstall :
1. Sony Mobile Update Engine
2. Xperia Companion
Then fresh install the Xperia Companion.
Hope it works for you!
Same failure. Uninstalled, restarted both phone and PC, reinstalled companion, checked firewall to make sure they were still punching through, checked to make sure running compatibility and admin for the xperia companion. Same error just under 1/4 through progress bar (where it stalls for several minutes before throwing the error).
Did you uninstalled both, Sony Mobile Update Engine and Xperia Companion? If yes, then I have no idea how to solve your problems. All I did was uninstall those 2 softwares and run the Xperia Companion normally. I did not need to run with compatibility settings to make it works. Good luck for you!!
*You might want to check the log file, who knows it will give you some idea on what's wrong. It's located in
C:\Users\[YourUserName]\Sony\Xperia Companion\logs\
Yes, I uninstalled both. Matter of fact, when I went to uninstall the Sony, the experia uninstall had already uninstalled it and my pc yelled at me for trying to uninstall something that was uninstalled.
Also, no such log file under any of the usernames on my pc. No Sony folder, nevermind a log file, under any user. EDIT: It is, however, under c: \ Documents > Sony > Xperia Companion
Perhaps this is because it never makes it past the download segment? Where is the update attempting to download to? Temp files?

It then proceeds to reattempt this (last 3 lines) 10 times before just dying, then picks a new port number seemingly at random (not 58088). And again x10 new port number, and again and again. But never that initial port that it opened.
I have also backed up and attempted the "Repair" option, and same error occurs.
Also, have attempted with anti-virus AND windows firewall shut down, with same resulting failure no ports.
My husband took pity on me and we plugged it into his machine and all updated, just waiting for it to complete. We believe there's another piece of security software blocking ports, just not sure which. Good luck!
I downloaded the update but it shows installation failed
Help
Hi @Jcy,
Which phone model do you have, and how did you perform the update?
Can you start your device at all, or does it return an error message not letting you boot? If you can't boot the device, I suggest that you perform a software repair using Xperia Companion.
