Insufficient storage; (I have sufficient storage)!!!

I'm trying to download apps from Google Play, and am constantly faced with the pop up message:

"Insufficient storage

This device doesn't have enough space to download "APP NAME".

Consider deleteing apps or content that you no longer need and try again."

Frustratingly though, I have over 403MB of space available on internal memory and have moved literally everything that I can do onto the SD Card.

I've restarted, cleared caches, etc. How can I solve this error? Nothing will install anymore!

I will try to get some more info on this, if you are ok with waiting for it. I am not sure if it works the same for others, but I think there was a thread where it was mentioned that you need at least 500MB to update an app. The app will collect cache and data too, so it will expand.

@PeteyG EDIT:

What I know for now that generally, the system will reserve 10% from the usable memory (in this case internal). So your M4 has about 4-5 GB available for apps, which leaves us with 400-500 MB needed. Are you sure you are qualified for this? Nauseated_Face

You need to have 500MB+the app's size free to update an app. It has been answered before.

Thank you and apologies. I should have done a proper search before posting. I was under the impression that you just had to have at least twice the data that the app took up to install - that's what it was on my old phone.

Still, other appstores don't require this 500MB to install, and neither did my old smartphone. Effectively now my internal memory is permanantly lowered by 500MB! Why is it seemingly so needy on newer phones, all of a sudden? Is it just Sony or does every brand do this? :-S

@PeteyG

Are you getting the 75% or 95% memory notification ?

So long as I know what to do to make it work again I can live with clearing the 500MB if I use more than that. A lot of the stuff I had installed wasn't needed anyway so now I have way above the 500MB required for updates/installs.

Thanks for the info!

Hi,

So I am an owner of Aqua M4 with the 8gb internal ram. I transfer all applications *(that are movable) to SD-card, but I still get the message: There is not enough space to download application, when I try to install smg from play.

Please help!

@Pierre998

If you have less than 500MB of internal storage you won't be able to download apps.

Settings > storage > clear cache

a suggestion

settings > apps > all > sort by size > look for media and streaming apps, facebook, instagram, spotify, etc > clear data
