UBP-X800 - latest firmware loses sync

I've done a software update for the UBP-x800.   It lost video after the update and hasn't worked properly with my system since.   It is connected to an Anthem MRX-720 (then to Sony projector) and has worked fine until the update.   Now, it continually loses HDMI sync so that audio only plays for about a second, then goes off for about 5.    Video doesn't stay long enough to be able to see anything.   The player does connect to an monitor I've got (not 4k) so I have checked the firmware and it is the latest version.     I've tried different HDMI inputs on the Anthem, but no difference.   The Anthem continually flashes 4K/no-signal, and PCM/no-signal.   I can't see a way to take the firmware back a rev, but wish I could as previous one was fine.   I've also disconnected all other inputs on the Anthem, with no change

Has anyone else experienced similar with latest firmware (M36.R.0238)
