A7C II - SDXC V90 warning message

January 2024.

SONY A7C II,  fw 1.01

I have recently been getting the message 'To perform shooting with this setting, use a memory card higher than SDXC V90.' in video mode.

I get this with Sony Tough G-series cards and ProGrade V90 cards. Camera is set to record XAVC-intra frame, 1920x1080, 25P so not particularly high data rate.

The A7C II only has one card slot. My SDXC are the fastest cards currently available. The camera doesn't have a CFE type-A slot.

I can of course hit OK and carry on shooting as normal but this looks like a software bug?  maybe worth letting the engineering team know?

It should only be a warning message that appears as a precaution.

thank you for the reply.

My point is the camera is telling me I need to use a card that doesn't even exist (yet).

It's like they have ported the software from another Alpha camera (maybe the A7 IV?) but forgot to delete this message.

I suppose that it's a software bug.

Are you able to ignore the message and take your clips?

well, a did bypass the message a couple of times but then it suddenly wouldn't allow me to record anything at all so I had to do a factory reset (which wiped all my custom settings too).

It's behaving now....but for how long I don't know?

UPDATE - Oct.24.

so, 10 months and one FW update later and I'm still randomly getting this error message with V90 cards.

To re-iterate: the concern is not just that the camera won't always accept I have a high-end V90 card inserted, it's also the fact the message shouldn't even appear at all since there is currently no option to use anything higher than a V90 UHS-II SDXC card in this camera. It's like a spurious line of code that hasn't been deleted, but one that will also stop the camera from operating.A7C2 errorOct24.jpg

@0073540500008048 did you try to reset the camera? Did you test another memory card?

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes I reset the camera after the FW update. The cards I use are Sony Tough G-series and Prograde V90, both more than capable of handling the data rates required.

My point though is the A7Cii is asking for a card rated HIGHER than v90. The camera only has one SDXC UHSII slot. V90 is currently the highest-rated type of card available. The error is therefore bogus and should not exist in the software code.
