The Xperia 1 is already taking too long to come out we don't need another flagship 3 months later. A compact phone would be smarter
The Xperia 1 is the former Premium line with the 4k stuff. The xperia 2 is the regular flagship line.
So this is like releasing the XZ premium and then in the same year XZ1 and XZ1 compact all 3 with the same internals and camera. So lets just hope they release a Xperia 2 compact as well.

Unfortunately no.
X1 is just regular phone, the screen itself is not true 4K, count the pixels (resolution vertical x horizontal). It has 6 million pixels while 4K has ~ 8 million pixels. It is rather 3K, definitely above 2K but below 4K, also the internals like RAM doesn't apply to "Premium". I still hope for Premium X1 to be released later this year as I would buy it. With better cameras and 4000mAh+ li-poly battery, 8GB+ RAM, UFS 3.0 storage,headphone jack and FM radio would be perfect for me as a Premium.
X2 will be just smaller x1.
Maybe some day they will again release flagship compact. Who knows?
For me such a device would be useful for gym, when riding a bike and other activities
Can't wait for X1!
Well it might not be true 4k but they are advertising it as 4k HDR OLED, so my money is on that, this is the premium (they just changed the naming scheme and they will not call it premium anymore). About RAM, battery, ufs 3.0 and better camera, I seriously doubt it will happen this year. I think this is for next year and the successor of the Xperia 1 (which isnt the Xperia 2). Fm radio and headphone jack are just a wish, which is most likely not going to happen. And about the RAM since when does the premium has more RAM then the regular flagship? The Z5 premium has the same as the Z5, the XZ premium has the same as the XZ1. The XZ2 premium has the same as the XZ2. So yeah. Xperia1 = premium. Xperia 2 = regular flagship like XZ 1,2,3.

At the 21:9 aspect ratio, it is indeed true 4k.
The vertical pixels aren't what's counted when namong the "k"
2k = 1920
UHD /4K = 3840
8k = >7680
The standard of 4k is 3840x2160(crop) and the base of 2160p @16:9 is obviously the full frame, once the resolution is cropped on the vertical to accommodate 21:9 you are left with the cropped resolution of 3840x1644 which is technically above the standard of 3840x1600.
In order to achieve 2160p at 21:9, the resolution would be 5120×2160, which is the standard 5Kx2K.
So would it be smarter to skip the 1 and see what they release later in the year?
