Updated my Z5 this morning, now it won't start. After it gets past the Sony logo it just shows a dead Android symbol with Error written on.
I've tried a hard shutdown/restart and still get the same error.
I've also tried taking out and re-inserting the sim card and still get the error.
It's completely unusable!

When updating did the phone reboot to this or did you force reboot it? I think your best option is to connect the phone to the PC download the companion app from Sony and then run the software repair option.
I agree with @Thorgorn
Connect to Xperia companion and perform a software repair using Xperia Companion
This does wipe your device in the process
Ok, I did a software repair and it's back on, but I've now lost all my contacts and when I try to sync them from my Sim, nothing happens.
Also had to re-download all my apps. Those connected to Facebook were fine but those not (like ColorNote where I had a lot of important notes stored) lost all their info.
Not happy Sony!

Glad to see its back up and running, to be fair @viridis did say that it will wipe your data. Main thing is the phone is up and running again.
