Z5 compact wi-fi Authentication problem

Hi.

I've been trying to google this and I came across several other posts about this issue. However, I want to know if this is a problem with my phone or if it is the router.

The problem is that whenever I try to connect to a router, I get a message that my phone cant authenticate with it. I am sure the password is typed in correctly and I have tried to restart the router and do a factory reset on my phone. The only way to connect to some routers is to push the wps-button. This is very annoying. When at work, I can connect fine to one of the routers there, but not the others. I cant connect to the router in my home without pressing the wps-button (once that is done, it connects automaticly)

Is this a known issue with the xperia phones? And is this a problem that is caused by the phones or is it that the routers may be a little old?

I also want to add that my other devices has connected to these networks just fine.

Thanks in advance.

Hi drjazzman,

Welcome to the community,

Does this happen with other Wifi connections other than your own?

I have exactly the same problem. I got the phone yesterday and initially the wifi worked fine but now I only get authentication problem. Laptops, a Samsung S5 and a android Motorola all work fine on the connection so this is something specific to SONY Z5 compact.

Okay this is clearly a bug in the Z5 software because the following solution found here works:

https://www.orduh.com/fix-sony-xperia-z5-wont-connect-to-wi-fi

Solution is,

Turn off wifi

Turn off mobile data

Go to airline mode

Turn on wifi

I have the wifi problem with the Z5 too. The wifi will stop working until you do the steps above but as soon as you turn off flight mode and re-enable mobile data it stops again. The only way I managed to fix it is to remove the SD card from the phone and turn it on. Then I can turn it off and re-insert the SD card and wifi works normally for a while before becoming flaky again.

I have this problem too, thankfully I have unlimited data on my plan but it's obviously not as fast as my WiFi would be. Pretty disappointed with the Z5C, this is just one of many problems I'm having.
