I got a Z5 Compact just yesterday and have been trying it out. I do like the phone a lot, especially the side power button / fingerprint reader is fantastic. The back could be more curved to make it nicer to hold and the display calibrated better.
Anyway, my problem is that the phone runs hot! After unlocking it and just browsing the net (no videos) for about 20 minutes the phone gets warm especially from the back. It's not burning or anything but enough to be noticeable and enough to be a bit uncomfortable. Watching a YouTube video doesn't really change the situation. The only time I've got it really hot is when Play Store was downloading all my apps on the phone - but then again my old Galaxy S4 got hot in that situation too.
Is this normal for this phone? Because if it is then I'm returning it. I don't need an extra hand warmer for winter. I even tried running it in safe mode but the same thing happened, it gradually gets warm.
I tested various situations (using camera to take a video, watching YouTube, browsing websites) and compared to my S4 and the Z5 Compact was always much warmer from both front and back (even without a back cover on S4).
It's hard for me to say if there's anything wrong or not. The phone will get warm when used but it shouldn't be "uncomfortably warm". If you believe there is something wrong with it I would first advise you to repair the phone software using PC Companion..
Before repairing your device you may want to backup your information first. Check out this topic for more information on how to.
How to backup?
If the issue should still remain I think that this needs to be examined and fixed at a repair center. For more information about how to submit your phone for repair and where, contact your local support team.
My Z5 also gets hot, only in more extreme usage though (mainly the camera).
General usage of the phone seems fine, but if I record 4k / use the AR effects the for a few miniutes the back does get very hot.
I recorded 5 mins of 4k to test and where it didn't over heat... the back was very hot.
Hope this can be solved with the new camera software.
4 days (13.11.15) ago i bought the said unit (just upgraded from Z3 compact) at Sony Center, Ramaniyah Mall, Khobar, KSA,... while usin' it for a skype call (no other application is open) at around 10 minutes it started to warm, and few more minutes later as the call goin' on it's heatin' up noticeably (that was a day after the purchased),after that i totally drained the battery for almost two days by just keepin' it on (sometimes openning FB) then charged it full (turned off), then tried it runnin' for youtube (1hr and 10mins play some documentary) it got warm but not as hot with the skype call .... please advise me on what to do on it, or any software to address this concern? this can be replaced? warranty of this 'till to what extent?

It is hard to judge temperature of Z5C being user of Z3C but when I ocassionally use Skype on my Z3C it gets very hot and battery drains quite fast. It is a bit strange, because all required codecs are onboard but this app doesn't seem to be well optimised for power consumption and compatibility.
I'm having overheating issues and unresponsive screeen on my Z5 Compact. It wasn't perect before the Marshmallow update (it's only two months old), but is much worse since, the back of the phone now gets scaldingly hot when using, or sometimes when charging (not always). It's corrupted my SD card twice in the last week.
I'm trying a software repair through the new Xperia Companion, but it's about an hour in and on less than a fifth of the progress bar - I htought it wasn't moving at all, but it is creeping across the screen.
Any hints and tips, please? Should it normally take this long? I did back up before the repair, and know it'll take hours to download the apps etc again, so his is looking like a shole day to repair something that shouldn't need repairing.
Thanks
