Z5 Compact Radio FM app freezing after Marshmallow Update

Hi there,

Yesterday I had my Z5c updated to Android 6.0 and after that, today I had some freezing issues with the Radio FM application.

2 or 3 times when I tried to minimize the application (after I changed the FM station) I got a frozen gray screen. I tried to closed the app, it appeared as closed, but radio was still working (!). After about 1 minute I got the message: "FM radio isn't responding. Do you want to close it?" I tried yes, but still didn't close! So I made a restart.

Then I tried to go to:   settings/apps/FM radio / Clear Data & Clear Cache

Since then, it seems to behave normally. Any ideas to avoid similar future issues??

Really appreciate your help

Thanks in advance

I just rebooted my phone for the second time in twentyfour hours because the FM Radio. Sony, please rollout the update I've been told to correct the problem.

We're almost in June and this makes almost seven month to DO NOT fix a problem: it's is almost ridiculous.

Do you seriously hope to sell the high-priced Xperia X?

Does anyone know if FM Radio bug is fixed in  32.2.A.0.224 ?

I am curious too.

Replying to myself.

It seems not to freeze, even with Bluetooth switched on, and:

  • Stereo sound still not exists;
  • Stereo/mono indicator loops from mono to stereo and back to mono in milliseconds so: old bug with an new face;
  • TrackId seems to work.

I will send a USB trace, hoping that developers will take it into account.

p.s.: Sony's weather widget has been updated again and it's up and running. I think it's important to know that it's doing well because, among the many crippled features, the most redundant and unuseful one has the biggest successful update rate.

Hello, I also have a Xperia z5 compact facing the no stereo through earphones problem when using the radio app. I'm using the newly released 6.0.1 version of Android and I had this problem with version 6.0 too.

I had an Xperia z3 compact that had no issues with the radio app, I have no idea why Sony hasn't fix this after so many months, this is the Xperia z5 compact, not a mid-range device!!!

Finally I got the update.

FM Radio works more stable, but still - it hangs the phone time to time.

I've been calling / e-mailing Sony Support about this for so many times.

And for nothing.

All they have to say is 'Re-write the software' and 'Send the phone to service'.

I've heard these 2 answers for so many times I can't even tell you.   😞

My Sony phone is back in its box now and I'm back on Samsung. At least Samsung does NOT have a radio. Which is very similiar to Sony's NOT working radio.

Oh, one more thing, guys... and your replies on this matter will be very much appreciated.

When I am using the native e-mail app that comes with the phone... I'm going to any of my inboxes and then I pull down from the top of the phone to sync the inbox. The thing is that my Xperia Z5 Compact only loads a couple of e-mails once. Then it stops loading/syncing. And then I got to pull down again. And again. And again. And again.

This doesn't happen on iPhone / Samsung.

Am I the only one who experiences this?

I've just upgraded my Z5c to the new firmware version.
FM radio hanged a couple of times and stereo channels' separation is still not working. Or at least separation is very narrow.

Firmware version ends with 253

Confirm that last Firmware update ends with 253 that I got today, still hangs the FM Radio app time to time....

Unfortunately I have decided that the developers don't know how to fix this. That's the sad truth for a 550euros smartphone.
