Z5 Compact EMails to Audi MMI via MAP

Hello,

after Upgrading my Z5C (E5823) to the newest Firmware 6.0.1 (32.2.A.0.253) i have troubles to see my EMail in the Audi MMI.

I takes forever and most of the time the bluetooth connection is crashing. Sometimes when the mails arriving it shows correct mails in the MMI.

With the older Firmware it was working, my old Blackberry Z10 shows also the Mails correct.

Are there any settings which can fix the issue

Kind Regards

Simon

@HAWKiZ5 Do you have the possibility to set up a Hotmail/Outlook account as Exchange ActiveSync to see if that works? Just a thought, perhaps it could be related to the security of the Exchange server that you use.

@Emir don;t know exactly what you mean...........on my laptop I use Outlook as a mail client (to access Exchange, but also other IMAP / gMail accounts), and how/where can I setup this as an Exchange ActiveSync account? (Hotmail I don't have). ?

@HAWKiZ5 I mean if you could use a Hotmail account (www.hotmail.com), it is a popular alternative for services such as email owned by Microsoft. I don't have a car to try with I can't test it out, so if you would happen to have some spare time to test this I would appreciate it.

Here are the settings which can be used to add the account as Exchange ActiveSync which I found on google(if it does not automatically configure in the Sony Email app):

Ah, ok. since we use a hosted exchange provider for work, it is not easy to change that and a kind of given. Maybe I can ask the provider to adjust some of the (security) settings, but then I need to know more about what (they have) to do.?

Ok, now use a workaround for a few days, and that is doable: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.groebl.sms

I now see ALL notifications in my car (so also from WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIN, etc, etc, can be selectively put onoff!) and also eMail from all accounts/email apps present on the phone if you want. Pity it only shows first few lines, and no reply, etc possible, but ok, for now it works.

Let's hope somebody can explain what (Hosted)Exchange (security) settings should be used, to make it also work as a real mail sync using BT MAP?

@HAWKiZ5 I am not sure as to which settings could be the cause, but for me to be able to look in to this further it would really make it easier for me if you would be able to test using a standard service such as Hotmail.

Were you able to create an account and try?

Did not create a(nother) new email/hotmail account yet (btw, how does Hotmail resembles hosted Exchange ?)

Found a workable solution however: it seems you can also use IMAP to access (my hosted) Exchange server, so when you do NOT use Active Sync, but IMAP in the default eMail client, all mails are accessible via BT MAP in the car.

Then I keep using the gMail app for the Active sync (including Exchange contacts, calendar, etc) and all other email accounts I have.

[maybe the fact that IMAP works, but Exchange not, gives already a clue to a more deffinitive solution?]

Ok, just after the upgrade to Android Nougat (32.3.A.0.376) there are problems again on this BT MAP issue.

First of all, bluetooth on this Android version (7.0) is very buggy: sometimes Media audio is not working, sometimes it does...........but ok, many threads about those problems elsewehere.

Surprisingly the BT MAP (eMail sync) seems to work right away, but...........not completely: only the email headers are shown, when you select an email, it will not open the message (as it did in Android 6.x) but gives an error: can not connect to phone.

Of course I re-paired the phone and the car, deleted all the email accounts, plus cache, etc, did restarts, but it is not getting to work. Also when you create a POP or other IMAP account, the same behaviour: alert when there is new email, plus the header (sender and subject) but when you try to read the email, error (can not connect to phone).

Any help very much appreciated. It might be due to the upgraded stock Xperia eMail app (12.0.A.0.30), maybe an older (Android 6.x) version of the same app will work? Any clue where to get this? Even the stock email app of Lollipop would work for this goal.........

@HAWKiZ5 may I ask you what version of MMI are you using? Is it updated? Also, if you are using an hosted exchange server or an white labeled/domain exchange solution the Outlook app should be able to connect to your server and it should also be able to read all the emails.. however this is not the issue. I am not an Audi guy but mainly a Daimler/Chevrolet/Renault/Dodge one so their system you will know are different but one thing is sure, apparently the issue you are facing is realted to permission to read priviledged/secured content.

With the introduction of Marshmallow and along with Nougat it's not possible accessing information and "data" from a phone unless it is authorized.

Now follow me, you can get the headers, right? Like:

Email from xxx@yyy.zz - Subject: Blah Blah Blah

That is because you selected and elected to show content in your notifications, if you will go to Settings, Lock screen & Security, Configure notifications and disable all kind of notification access, you may stop getting also headers.

Now, in my experience - and I repeat, I have no experience with Audi - you have to set the Audi Connect app to be a device administrator in order for you to be able to read also content of the emails, otherwise your MMI will never be able to connect.

Try this: Go to Settings, Lock screen & Security, Device Administrator: Can you see the Audi Connect app in there? Is it active? What happen if you activate it?

Thx for your extensive response.

The starter of this thread has anb Audi with MMI, I used to have that, but as you can read on my first post in this thread it concerns a Mercedes with ME Connect . Comand system.

My Z5C had Marsmellow (6.1.1) and then the whole BT MAP worked (email headers AND email contents readable in the car Comand system when connected via Bluetooth). So without using any additional app on the phone, just using the standard bluetooth MAP profile. Now this Z5C has been upgraded to Nougat (7.0) and only the header of all new emails appear in the car Comand system, but you can not open the contents (error).

Did not try to "stop notifications" (will try tomorrow) but I tried to config the Device Administrator access: there is no specific (Mercedes) app on the Z5C you can allow to give access. Only the usual MyExperia, and some other apps are listed there. The Message access should work over bluetooth (using the BT MAP profile) without using any specific app on the phone. For SMS this works great: not only the small header, also the whole contents can be read on the car Comand system.

Any additional thoughts appreciated, thx!
