Z5 Compact EMails to Audi MMI via MAP

Hello,

after Upgrading my Z5C (E5823) to the newest Firmware 6.0.1 (32.2.A.0.253) i have troubles to see my EMail in the Audi MMI.

I takes forever and most of the time the bluetooth connection is crashing. Sometimes when the mails arriving it shows correct mails in the MMI.

With the older Firmware it was working, my old Blackberry Z10 shows also the Mails correct.

Are there any settings which can fix the issue

Kind Regards

Simon

Hi @SimonZ5C,

Have you tried to unpair the devices and then pair them again? Go to Settings > Bluetooth > Press and hold on the Bluetooth accessory in your car > Forget, now pair them again.

It may also be a good idea to factory reset the Bluetooth accessory in the car if you have the possibility to before pairing. For instructions on how to do so, check the user guide for the device or contact the manufacturer.

I have exactly the same problem when connecting my Z5C with same 6.0.1 firmware with my Mercedes built0in car phone. Pairing via Bluetooth is easy, all call functionality works, also addressbook and SMS syncing, but no eMail (Mercedes systems notices that this is not supported by this phone).

The car is brand new, but did a factory reset to be sure, still not working. It seems 6.0.1 on the Z5 does not support eMail via MAP (anymore)?

Please advice.

I tried a Google search for Audi MMI since I can't test it for myself, and it seems that other brands using Audi MMI have experienced something similar as well. One user recommends downloading the Audi MMI app, have you tried that? Here's a link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.audi.mmiapp&hl=en_GB

I would also recommend getting in touch with Audi to see if they may know more about this.

As I wrote just before your posting, is the problem similar with a Z5C connecting to a Mercedes car phone, zo certainly not only Audi MMI.

Can of course start a new thread for the Mercedes problem, but it seems the same problem (and since it worked with Lollipop, but not anymore with Marshmallow..........).

I apologize, I completely missed that.

Hmm, did you try the same type of procedure? By that I mean have you looked to see if it's specific to the Z5-series, or Android 6 in general? Is there an equivalent app for your Mercedes as the one I linked for Audi?

No Problem, thx for the quick response.

For Mercedes there is a similar app (Mercedes Connect ME: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.daimler.mm.android) and I use it, but no difference.

Just tried an "old"  Xperia Z1 (with Android 4.4.4/KitKat) and when connected via BT to the Mercedes, all works fine, so including SMS and eMail syncing. Z5 with Lolipop seems to work too but with 6.0.1 not (anymore). Also tried both ways of pairing (initaited from car and initiating from phone), both do not result in eMail sync to work. Maybe different implementation of BT MAP in Xperia/Marshmellow?

Really hope there soon will be a fix for this!

Ok, did some more research and here some good and some bad news about Z5(C) with Android 6.0.1 connecting with cars (Audi, Mercedes, etc) via Bluetooth MAP (to exchange/display SMS and email in the car display):

- The good news is that BT MAP is there on the Z5(C) with Android 6.0.1., and it seems that SMS works flawlesslly for most people, since the Messaging app installed supports the BT MAP. For email, it depends on the email app used: the built-in gMail app does NOT support BT MAP, so it will NOT work. Since many people use the gMail app (also for other IMAP, POP or Exchange accounts) you will see no emails in your car system (and a message that your device does not support email sync). But...........if you use the other eMail app pre-installed (called eMail) then it WORKS!

- the bad news is that it will only work for IMAP accounts (not for Exchange........@!#$!@#$, since that is my major mail account!) and only for ONE mail account, and no dynamic account selection possible, just the first account configured in eMail will work. Will do some more research to see if other email clients (like Touchdown, K-9, etc) will support Bluetooth MAP for Exchange....).

A nice workaround for people where it it is not working are some notifier apps: they will at least send the notifier of new email (and whasapp, facebook, low battery, etc, etc) to the car via (Messaging) BT MAP. Good examples are:

- Botifier: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.github.grimpy.botifier

- Notification Forwarder Pro: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.groebl.sms

So at least good to know, it seems not a (specific) Sony/Xperia issue, but mail client dependent.

Brief update: tried several email clients, but with none of them BT MAP seems to work (also not with IMAP accounts).

It seems only the stock eMail app (NOT gMail!) can be used for BT MAP. As written before, that works for one IMAP account, but NOT for Exchange accounts.

Any thoughts how the (Sony/Android?) stock eMail app can sync also MS Exchange emails via BT MAP to a car? Exchange can be configured, but is not open for BT MAP to access...............

@HAWKiZ5 Do you have the possibility to set up a Hotmail/Outlook account as Exchange ActiveSync to see if that works? Just a thought, perhaps it could be related to the security of the Exchange server that you use.
