Hello everyone.
A week ago I bought the xperia zl phone and I tried to also use the pre installed "Remote Control" App to use the built in Infrared blaster. I can't make it work though. What I did is:
- I manually installed two deviceds (projecter / av receiver).
- Through the remote control software I programmed some keys in holding the original remote of the device in front of the infrared blaster of the ZL. The Remote Control App told me that it 'Learnt the command'. I then saved everything and tried to use the programmed button but both deviced don't react. It seems the infrad signal is not sent out.
- I also tried to hold the infrared blaster of the zl really close to the deviced - still no reaction.
Do I miss something? Does infrared have to be switched on seperately? I checked in the apps and all Remote Control Apps / Service seem to be running.
I did uninstall / disable some sony apps before but I don't think I disabled relevent apps for the remote control to work....
Anyone having the same problem? or a solution
?
Michael
Solved! Go to Solution.
I am planning to move to consumer court against this defective product.
Any news/update on this problem?
I'm considering a phone from the Xperia line and would pick the ZL if IR learning works properly.
Additionally, perhaps this thread should not be marked as "Answered" if the problem still persists.
same problem .... some news please.
This topic is marked as Answered, perhaps that's why noone bothers to look at it. Perhaps we should create a new, unsolved topic.
Sorry for being away, just got back from vacation.
As i wrote before, this has been investigated and it's not a software problem but a hardware problem in some units. It's not a general problem that occurs with all Xperia ZL.
If your phone is unable to learn new codes properly the only solution is to contact your local Sony Xperia support or an authorized service location to have your phone repaired or replaced.
Thanks for the reply Rickard, I didn't realize you're the only one providing Xperia support around here.
For me personally, I am looking for a good phone with hardware camera button, while maintaining a 'compact' form factor and many supported functions (MHL/HDMI, OTG/USB Host, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0). Having IR added to that is what differentiates the ZL from the ZR for me in a good sense, as does the physical camera button location.
Unfortunately the ZL hasn't been released in my market (NL), so I'll have to either make due with the ZR or import the ZL. The outlook on a possible hardware problem on an imported device complicates matters for me, and this together with my uncertainty of camera recording battery endurance of the ZL compared to ZR (1080p display, non-removable battery) will probably have me pick the ZR over the ZL for now. Perhaps this provides some consumer insight to Sony.
Today I went to Sony Service center in Surat, Gujarat, India. The technical head doesn't even know about manual setup, infrared code learning, programming IR codes from another remote etc.
I took back my phone from them as they dont have even basic knowledge about this remote app functions. I taught them how to learn IR codes from another remote, isn't it absurd?
Can't expect much from Sony India. The sole reason for buying this phone was its IR code learning function. Its not working due to defective hardware from Sony.
Some Good News. After my repeated mails, Sony India has taken note of this problem. They have tested the phone for manual setup and found it defective. They assured me for further assistance.
i have a xperia tablet z and face the same problem,
still have problem with update 244
