Hello everyone.
A week ago I bought the xperia zl phone and I tried to also use the pre installed "Remote Control" App to use the built in Infrared blaster. I can't make it work though. What I did is:
- I manually installed two deviceds (projecter / av receiver).
- Through the remote control software I programmed some keys in holding the original remote of the device in front of the infrared blaster of the ZL. The Remote Control App told me that it 'Learnt the command'. I then saved everything and tried to use the programmed button but both deviced don't react. It seems the infrad signal is not sent out.
- I also tried to hold the infrared blaster of the zl really close to the deviced - still no reaction.
Do I miss something? Does infrared have to be switched on seperately? I checked in the apps and all Remote Control Apps / Service seem to be running.
I did uninstall / disable some sony apps before but I don't think I disabled relevent apps for the remote control to work....
Anyone having the same problem? or a solution
?
Michael

I cannot agree more to your comment, Ivasi.
it seems that Sony didnt unterstand our problem correctly.
Thank you for your answer!
I do read between your lines that this is an hardware related issue?! If it is, and all Xperia ZL devices are affected, what are you going to do about this? Will there be a global take back? What's about the software on those devices, will they be reset after beeing fixed?
I'm from Germany, where can I fix my device at all?
Best regards.
totally agree with Ivasi. when is the global recall? Note note you (Sony) did not sell this as a cheap phone, you advertise this as one of your premium product. Now, please do a good job in your customer service. I have fill in the customer care contact form but no reply.
There is no solution to this yet until all of us have a working product in our hands.
I did what Rickard suggested and contacted sony - the person on the support didn't know about this issue and made me do a 'software repair' over the sony software first. Issue is still not resolved.
ok, I got a reply from Sony Care, I like their responsiveness, this is good
I will checked with them when they plan to release this firmware.

Seeing as you have tested this, have you also gotten one repaired or replaced that is functional?
This has already been escalated and investigated by our development and unfortunately this is not a software problem and not something that happens on all units. The phone needs to be sent to a service location to be repaired or replaced if it can't send out a learned signal.
Looks like the learnt signal can be sent out - I've put my xperia tablet s in learn mode and it gets learnt IR signal from ZL, but the signal itself is wrong, so if it's not software, then looks like the ZL's IR blaster is unable to get exact copy of external IR signal and distorts it while learning. Now it's a question to have all service centers to be aware of this issue all around (issues confirmed from India, Russia, Germany, etc) and not getting the replacement with the same failure...
Has anyone been successful in going through support and getting your device repaired or replaced? The farthest I have gotten is them telling me to do a full system repair, which I did, with no problems solved. I have yet to go further with this as I have a feeling that the support departments are still unaware of the issue. Do any of you have any experiences, good or bad, with getting this problem resolved?
well, I brought mine to local Sony center (Malaysia), and the person told me they have not heard of this issue. If this issue has been escalated, it clearly hasn't been communicated to all. Anyway, he show me a card with 3 service centers but none of them has Sony printed on them, they are some local repair shop. Now that we have confirmation from Xperia Support that this is not a software problem, so it is a hardware problem then. Question to Sony, since my phone is less than 3 months old, can I claim one-to-one exchange for hardware defect? if yes, please give us an official confirmation so that I can bring to my local Sony center for exchange. Thanks.
