Xperia ZL, IR-Blaster doesn't seem to work with Remote Control App

Hello everyone.

A week ago I bought the xperia zl phone and I tried to also use the pre installed "Remote Control" App to use the built in Infrared blaster. I can't make it work though. What I did is:

- I manually installed two deviceds (projecter / av receiver).

- Through the remote control software I programmed some keys in holding the original remote of the device in front of the infrared blaster of the ZL. The Remote Control App told me that it 'Learnt the command'. I then saved everything and tried to use the programmed button but both deviced don't react. It seems the infrad signal is not sent out.

- I also tried to hold the infrared blaster of the zl really close to the deviced - still no reaction.

Do I miss something? Does infrared have to be switched on seperately? I checked in the apps and all Remote Control Apps / Service seem to be running.

I did uninstall / disable some sony apps before but I don't think I disabled relevent apps for the remote control to work....

Anyone having the same problem? or a solution Slightly_smiling_Face ?

Michael

I bought Xperia ZL (6503) and Learning function... guess what... yes - it doesn't work. Yesterday I wrote a mail to http://www.colortiger.com/  to ask some info about Xperia ZL ... and they answered me that:

Unfortunately sony doesn't open their APIs for the infrared enough for us to make Smart Remote compatible. On the Xperia ZL we simply don't have direct access to the IR Blaster..

Best regards,

Alina

Just for info why there is no other Remote App for ZL...

Details of Sony ir remote API

http://developer.sonymobile.com/knowledge-base/sdks/sony-add-on-sdk/ir-remote-api/

4.2.2 on ZL still doesn't solve the remote learning  function bug

I saw that but like I said before, they answered...

doesn't open their APIs for the infrared enough for us

Still waiting if Sony gonna fix that.

btw, any suggestion where to place a request to Sony to open APIs?

p.s. more info

https://getsatisfaction.com/irule/topics/sony_tablet_ir_blaster

After looking into it, it is not exactly what we want.  This SDK does not allow us to send IR codes from our database to the IR blaster on the tablet.  This gives you a set of devices in its database that you can send IR codes from.

Thanks SeeK if SONY not opening thier API or giving restricted access is absolutey fine. But SONY atleast make your inbuilt app work. We do not want any thing else if learning works we are satisfied.

Secondly , n Remote App for SONY XZL we can see its developed by  UEI Technology  with some license from Universal Electronics. If SONY has to provide update it should be through this company and i guess some dispute between SONY and UEI is actually reason for all this delay in solving our problem.

Our Problem can be solved by UEI.

Hi Rickard, we have tried everything suggested in this forum, and this issue has now grow to 5 pages long and close to 3 months old now. I am not going to talk about hardware  or software issue here. RIght now, I just want to know how is Sony going to do next? if you can, please help us to check with them.

so far, from all the feedback in this forum, sent for repair and contact local support are of no help, and problem still there. It seems that this problem did not communicated to local sony, from my own experience in Malaysia, local Sony is not aware of this issue.

It seems that Sony does not have solution for this problem. It is very shameful for Sony.

I bought this xperia ZL only for its learning remote function (Galaxy S-4 does not have learning capability).

Since very first day I have mailed many times to sony India. First reply was to update software by connecting phone to pc via Sony PC companion. I did it and it updated phone software to 4.2.2 thats it. Nothing for manual setup of IR remote. Again today I received reply from Sony India which mentions how to setup remote manually which I guess anybody can do it by following on screen instructions. Sony is just making us fool. They dont have proper solution for it .

So this will be my last Sony Product if solution is not provided for this Rs. 35000 Remote.

Is there anyone from Sony studying and replying our problems in this forum ?

As it seems a manufacturing defect of xperia ZL manual remote setup, can we go to consumer court against Sony?
