Xperia Z 3 compact screen Cracked,locked & unresponsive

Hello,

Unfortunately i dropped my Z3 compact and even though it was in a case, the screen cracked. i have dropped lots of phones and they still work fine so surprised how weak this was but anyway i need to get it repaired as its a good little phone, however. 1. I can't unlock the screen to do a factory reset as it's unresponsive and i have my e mail accounts and others on it which could be accessed if i can't do a factory reset.

I have tried to do a hard reset but all the searches show its only possible to do a soft reset with the power and volume buttons etc - Is it possible to do a factory reset with a broken screen ?

2. I connected the phone to my pc to try access it and it shows the device but with nothing on it. Is this because the screen is locked ? i don't want to pay for a screen replacement if the phone is broke too. How can i tell ?

i can't do a remote wipe as i never registered the imie number and i believe i need a working screen to access this.

3. best place for a repair in the UK and probable cost ? i was considering carphone warehouse. i am with EE but obviously not covered under warranty for this.

Many thanks to anyone reading this who can offer useful advice

hope i can help someone too one day.

If you want to hard reset or factory reset then you can perform a system repair as below or if the USB OTG cable works connected to a mouse then you can perform a factory reset from within the phones settings

Performing a system repair using PC Companion - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data

Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process

If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

thanks @thommo and all replies.@uliwooly, @nabeel, @phy  i found a micro usb to usb in the box that my phone came in so managed to attach a mouse and navigate arond my phone sorting stuff and doing a factory reset so i can take in for repair. good to have this place to help with issues. still surprised it broke so easy with protective case although those barelythere casemates in clear look good but offer little protection.

@phoenix773

There are myriad reasons as to why the screen could break, if the phone landed on the screen or a sharp edge hit the screen it will break it.
