WiFi not connecting to home network

Im currently experiencing problems with my wifi network on my new z3 compact.

My z3 compact is able to find wifi network & is showing an excellent signal, i enter password  to try and connect but z3 just keeps on alternating between saved, secured with wpa/wpa2 & obtaining ip address...

I have tried resetting router, phone which allowed me to use wifi but a day later im back to problem off z3 not connecting to wifi. All other devices connect with no problems at all.

Any help  would be appreciated & ty in advance.

Hi rockidol

I found the information needed to enter for static  ip settings  by using a computer/laptop & typing cmd in start menu then opened comand prompt (cmd), once cmd is open type ipconfig/all then press enter.

It should list relative information needed for static ip.

Hope this helps

That's strange. First tap and hold on your network and select "Forget network". Then tap it again, enter your password and enable "Show advanced options". Here change "DHCP" to "Static" and then tap "IP address" and type the address (it may look grey but you can enter an IP.

Not sure why you have this issue. We don't have any known issues with this.

Another thing you may try is to update the firmare in your router and make a master reset of it and see if that helps.

Thanks Rickard -

I dont know what sort of numbers a static IP address has! This makes no sense to me at all.  I am afraid I dont understand a single word of your last sentence - I am not anywhere close to being a computer expert, and I have never needed to be with regard to a device picking up my wifi!  It looks like I am going to be using alot of data then.....if I had known there was an issue here I may well have chosen a different phone!

This depends on the settings in your home network so i'm afraid i can't say what you should enter. But if i were to guess i would try these two:

IP address: 192.168.0.20

Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Network prefix length: 24

DNS1: 192.168.0.1

DNS2: 192.168.0.1

or

IP address: 192.168.1.20

Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Network prefix length: 24

DNS1: 192.168.1.1

DNS2: 192.168.1.1

But if you have never updated the firmware in your router/access point at home i recommend that you contact the support for the router/access point to check if it has the latest software and if not, ask how you can update it and reset it.
Just like we release updates for our phones there are updates for routers and access points. As an example, if i don't use the latest software for the router i have at home, some wireless cards from a certain brand can't connect to it due to a bug in older versions of the firmware in my router.

Thanks for your time in replying to me.  I dont think I can face a call to India trying to explain that, considering I dont understand it myself.  I have never had an issue with anything else, from laptops, pc, tablets and phones.  Hey ho. You live and learn I suppose!  Should have googled the phone first, it seems if you do then this is an issue.  Thanks anyway.

Somewhat reassuring to see I'm not the only one with this problem.

I was able to re-enter the greyed-out information as a static IP address and save it, after which the phone briefly connected to the Wifi network but still couldn't load anything.  My router is as up to date as possible and there are very few other devices connected to it, so I don't believe that to be an issue.  Likewise my Z3 is up to date as well.  There was a spell yesteday when the connection wold drop after about 10 seconds of using apps like Skype or Viber but otherwise work fine, but today it flat-out won't connet.

Have any fixes or specific updates been released in the time since this thread was started?  It's clearly a reoccuring design flaw that needs addressing.

Sorry to hear that you have issues with WiFi as well.

Would it be possible for you to check if your phone works with another network to see if WiFi is working in your phone?

Have you tried to reset your router and is it WiFi Certified?

I have a Xperia Z that has developed the same type of fault.

It started with the Wifi connection randomly dropping out or not connecting automatically.
Now it will not connect to the network using the key. It will not adopt the correct encryption key for the network. Even when the router has set the correct IP address under DCHP the phone either sets an IP out of the normal range e,g, Router sets 192. Phone sets 10. the phone then says the IP is 0.0.0.0. I am unable to set the correct key type. if i try and redo the settings it keeps changing the key type.

Deleting the network only removes it for a secon or so from the list.

I have reinstalled the software  (10.6.A.0.454) and tried factory resets but no joy.

Under status it says the IP address is10.66.251.139
I have several items including another Xperia connected to the wifi without any problems.

Z3 Compact. I too have an issue with connecting to WiFi but had no Internet. To cut a long story short, after reset on phone twice I started to look at the router, afterall everything else was connected and working. The router was set on auto channel, so i started channel hopping and found success for me on channel 13. I'm no expert, but I believe the wireless adapter on my z3 compact is less compatible with WiFi than my old Xperia sp or everything else in my home. Try it!
