What app is reading my disk ?

My Z5 Compact (Nougat) is running really slow lately,

sometimes the home screen take a long time to load and all the icons are gone for several seconds. 

I've then used System Monitor to see whats going on - and i can see the disk is REALLY busy at times, like 90MB/s read operations for minutes and 3-4 CPU cores very active. 

but i can't see what app is to blame...

apparantly i need ROOT access to get more info ?

any advice ?

You could try to stop wifi and data and seeing some difference?

Do you use Stock Launcher and Widgets? and Facebook?

A few widgets ive had for a year: Sony calendar,  Sony weather and a vpn widget. 

Im using a Facebook/Messenger client version 73 which is 17 months old.

First try to boo on safe mode to disable all third party apps, that should help you narrow down the culprit

I tried shutting down all Internet access while it was stalling... It didn't make a difference,  the disk would still read like crazy.

If I boot into safe mode and the problem persist, then all I know is that its one of my MANY apps which is to blame.. 

Then how do I find the sinner, other than uninstall / disable one by one.. Itll take a month before I find out.
