USSD code shows invalid MMI code

I have tried to find out my product code in order to check whether my phone isn't branded or imported with invalid warranty certificate. First i found out my IMEI with the *#06# USSD code, but when I tried to view my product key to find out the code of the country my phone was intended to be sold in (*#272*IMEI#), nothing happened and after dialing it displayed "Connection problem or invalid MMI code" message. Is the code I type in incorrect? How do I display my Product code?
