Unable to enter unlock code after restart

Hi can anyone help? I am unable to enter screen unlock code after forcing shutdown. The screen comes up to enter code but keypad is completely unresponsive. What do I do?

connect a mouse to your phone > restart the phone > you should be able to use the mouse to input the pin lock (you will need an USB OTG cable)
