Unable to backup using Back up and restore app

Hi,

I'm unable to backup using Back up and restore app after encrypting my device but my SD card is not encrypted.

Is this an expected behaviour?

Cheers,

Andy

You might have to repair the phone

how about

settings > apps > all > backup & restore > clear everything > try again

Update Service (SUS)

PC Companion (PCC)

Bridge (for Mac)

Tried that a couple of times. Backup will fail once I encrypt the storage.

Sorry to hear that, the only option is to use my suggestions above

That is definitely the intended operation sorry, this is done so that if you have encrypted the device no one can just plug your phone into a PC and pull all the data off.

This is ridiculous.  The excuse that it's by design is laughable.  If the phone is encrypted, it should simply create an encrypted backup.  This is so obvious.  There is no excuse to limit the functionality because the phone is encrypted.

Sony doesn't tell you this will be a limitation.  Furthermore, there is NO way to remove the encryption unless you do a factory reset, and you can't back up your data before doing so!

No, you can do the backup.

You said that your SD card is not encrypted.
So, go into the Backup and Restore app that you should have pre-installed in your phone, have a backup of every file (you can also add the downloaded applications and their datas) and then select the microSD as the destination for your backup.

Once you do this backup, you should be able to safely factory-reset your phone.

After the hard reset, you can go again into the Backup and Restore app, choose the "Restore" tab, and then select the microSD.
There, you should be able to find your last backup.

This is the right procedure to safely backup and restore notwithstanding the encryption.

I agree with supershots on this one.

I had to encrypt my phone to add my corporate exchange account and now I can't backup my phone.

How about an enhancement request to get encrypted backups supported?
